Hulu Horror Movie Review: Jigsaw

After a series of murders bearing all the markings of the Jigsaw killer, law enforcement officials find themselves chasing the ghost of a man who has been dead for over a decade, and they become embroiled in a new game that's only just begun. Is John Kramer back from the dead to remind the world to be grateful for the gift of life? Or is this a trap set by a killer with designs of his own?

If this sounds like every other Saw sequel description, that's because it pretty much is. I forgot this film had even come out until it popped up on my "New Movies" Hulu list. Jigsaw is yet another Saw sequel and it doesn't add very much to the franchise. It once again plays with the idea of John Kramer not actually being dead but, still, somehow alive and committing his crimes of justice. Haven't we've been over this a thousand times already?

The cinematography, acting, and dialogue is somewhat better than other films in the franchise although that isn't saying much. The kills are gruesome but, not particularly interesting. The writers clearly tried to build a more intense and thrilling story rather than rely on gruesome kills. It didn't work. The story is pretty boring and empty with kills that are not as innovative as they were in the past.

In good faith, I can't recommend this movie. With Halloween around the corner, it is not worth adding to your binge-watching list. It's hard for me to believe that this movie made $103 million worldwide while it was only made on a $10 million budget. This is pretty impressive however, I suspect people spent money on this film out of curiosity and not for multiple views.

What did you think of this Saw installment? What do you think was the best Saw movie in the franchise?
