There are thousands of horror films out there. Sadly, many of them contain the same themes and same tired cliches. Tucker & Dale vs. Evil

This film turns the entire horror genre on its head making it no surprise that Tucker Dale VS. Evil has a cult following. The movie plays around with the "dangerous hillbilly" horror plot line that's been done a million times. To tell you anymore would ruin the movie. This is one you have to watch for yourself. What you end up with, is a scary and hilarious independent horror/ comedy that's better than 95% of the big budget horror films Hollywood  has cooked up over the years.

Thinner

Thinner is a lesser known Stephen King movie adaption, but it is actually one of the best. An overweight lawyer hits and kills a gypsy after a reckless drive home. When a judge (who is ironically his friend) finds him not guilty of reckless driving, the gypsy family decides to seek revenge by cursing the man to grow thinner and thinner until he eventually wastes away! This movie could be described as a dark comedy due to its equal blend between humor and gory thrills. If you're a Stephen King and haven't watched this yet, thank Netflix, you can watch it now!

Creep

Creep is a sleeper thriller that you will either love or hate. A desperate videographer takes a job in the remote mountains. His client is simply a creep. While I believe this story could have been told in a shorter time frame, the movie is still worth a watch. It's hard to figure out where the movie is headed, but the ending was truly chilling. It stayed on my mind for several days after I read it.

The Invitation

The Invitation is another  gem of a film with a twist ending that kept me reeling for days. A man and his new girlfriend accepts a dinner invitation from his wife and her new husband. This already sounds like a bad idea right? Well, things are about to get a whole lot worse. You think you've figured out the end of the film, but you have no idea. If you love slow burning thrillers with a huge pay off, definitely give this daring indie film a watch

Extraordinary Tales

If you love Edgar Allen Poe, you're going to love seeing his stories come to life with highly creative and mesmerizing animation. Poe's stories are narrated by famous voices such as Julian Sands and Guillermo Del Toro. This unusual anthology is a real treat for fans who love the father of macabre.

Tales of Halloween

While Tales of Halloween is no Trick r' Treat, the movie does a pretty good job with combining 10 tales that take place on Halloween night. Some of the stories are much better than others, but this  anthology is worth a watch because you may love one of the stories that another person hates. This movie definitely has some shocking scenes so be prepared to see the extreme!

One of the reasons I love Netflix is because they stream movies that aren't mainstream. Netflix is filled with hidden gems that will keep your craving for originality filled for a long time.

Have you seen any of these movies? Which one did you like the most? If you haven't seen them, which one will you be watching first?
